Submit a Review

We want your reviews. Yes–you!

We’re looking for a fourth regular reviewer/co-blogger. If you just want to submit a review, continue on!

What books can I review?
Speculative fiction that is self-published or by an independent publisher, available as an ebook on Amazon or Smashwords, priced at $10 or less. Books reviewed here follow the same standards as the books submitted for review. It needs to be a finished product and doesn’t have typos, formatting problems, etc. or at least only has it in an insignificant level.

Paranormal romance is not accepted, and books with a heavy romance element will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. YA books can be reviewed depending if adults would also find it enjoyable. You can read about this blog’s focus on the “submit a book” page.

How can I send a review?
Email your reviews to Frida: fridafantastic[at]gmail.com. Please add “Review Submissions” at the beginning of the subject line, and include the following in the email body:

Book Title – Author (Release Date)
Your rating out of five stars.
Book description (Write an informative summary if the description doesn’t say enough)
Review (no spoilers). Include detailed praise and criticism.
Link to Amazon/Smashwords/Author’s Site
Name of Reviewer Here
Link to Reviewer’s blog/website/goodreads/etc.

Please follow the rating/review system.

Who can send reviews?
Anyone who isn’t the author of the book, the author’s partner, family, roommates, close friends, etc. If you are caught, you and your future works will be blacklisted from this blog

Note on authors reviewing other authors: We know that many writers try to help give each other more visibility by reviewing each other’s work, and we’re aware of the potential conflict of interest. As long as the reviews are professional and honest, we accept them. If it smells too much like a “I give you five stars if you give me five stars”, then we’re not going to accept it. We’re managing a blog to produce informative content. If a review seems to have an inflated rating, and there’s not a lot of information about the premise, and there’s no critique in sight, then we just don’t think it’s informative enough to put on the blog.

Which reviews get accepted?
Reviews that (1) that follow the rating/review system for consistency (2) are informative enough about the premise/genre of the book so the target audience pays attention (3) reviews perfectly formatted, edited, and polished books. (4) provide both detailed praise and criticism of the book.

If you submit a review that follows these guidelines, it’s probably going to get posted eventually, Frida’s just backlogged with other stuff. If it’s taking a while, please post it on Amazon/Goodreads/etc. to help promote the work of the author.

A book I want to review has already been reviewed on your site. Is that okay?
If the book hasn’t been reviewed by another reader (i.e. a review published here that wasn’t written by our regular reviewers), you can submit your review. You can check the book review index here.

Is this only for books?
Primarily for fiction of the written type, but if you have a review for an indie movie, podcast, or webcomic, email it anyway and we’ll take a look at it.

Are you looking for co-bloggers?
We’re open to the idea. Send an email if you’re interested.
